Watching Clive Blunden, 65, and Brenda, 77, fall in love together, you’ll have no doubts. Happy old couple, getting married seems to be the goal everyone wants. But who would have known that Brenda was Clive’s mother-in-law before she became his wife in 2007?
Clive from Warrington, Cheshire married Irene Little. However, their relationship did not last long. After eight years, her two daughters, Clive, divorced her in 1985. In 1989, he started dating Irene. Irene said, “I didn’t know who her mother was and she completely betrayed me.” She also did not attend their wedding.
The two announced their intention to marry in 1997, but both were sentenced to ‘legal obstacles’. Brenda changed her last name, but Clive still had to work to change the law. In 2005, a European court upheld this requirement, and two years later, in 2007, they married.
Clive said: “People thought we couldn’t stand it, but we were stronger than ever. We are together 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and there is magic in it.”
Meanwhile, Brenda said, “Clive is a gentleman and he cares about me. He can quarrel a little, but he calms him down,” she said.
Brenda’s daughter, Irene, said, “This man who says he’s going to laugh with his ex, take pictures and make a promise to me is a complete stranger to me.”
Clive added that the family was shocked, but the closer they got, the easier it eventually became. However, Brenda claims that her ex-husband was an aggressive partner, which Clive and Brenda later denied.
